DESIGN STUDIO I

TEXT & IMAGE

Design Studio I introduces students to the core principles of visual communication design through the integration of typography and imagery. This studio-based course emphasizes clarity, hierarchy, and storytelling, encouraging hands-on experimentation in both digital and analog formats. Students develop skills in layout design, color theory, and sequential composition while building confidence in their creative process and technical execution.

Throughout the semester, students will complete four major projects and a comprehensive final, each designed to build on core visual communication concepts while encouraging creative exploration and technical growth. These assignments challenge students to apply design principles in diverse formats—from expressive typographic studies to sequential storytelling. Each project focuses on refining key skills such as composition, visual hierarchy, and the integration of text and image, preparing students for more advanced design work.
